These are photos of a mix of old art and new. All my older works were mostly done in my grandma's oils- many now lost in history, having no camera to record them. Most of my new works are done in acrylics. I have had no formal art education, as yet -but 10 delightful classes on how to use acrylic paints!
Real life can be messy and can be painful and our best isn't all that there is. There is all the work that builds up to the best creation. Art can be a struggle. In my Other Life, I define it as anytime- then -as opposed to now, I did not have the time and money to create, so I had to make use of what ever I had. I made paints last forever painting so thin as to not waste it. Drawing on paper not meant for art. I did not have a method to photograph most of my art then. Not having art education made it more difficult than it would have been to create. Almost all my first paintings were painted with one brush that I pampered and coaxed along- not knowing when I might get another. A lot of art was lost to water damage, rats, moving, and inadequate storage. Below I will add a series of art photos- as I continue to find them, they show the then times, the crumpled and some what destroyed remains of the learning which never stops, if we are lucky!
Rooster painted on tiles
I would never have imagined that I could draw a straight line, or even a crooked one -that could become a reasonable painting when I first picked up a pencil. Its a long road when you walk it by yourself, but if art is a passion in your heart, grab that pencil and start! My old works look like beginning art! They should inspire you to say- I can do that, I can do even better!
This was painted over 50 years ago, it set me on the path towards oil painting, using my grandma's oils and art box.
This was painted over 50 years ago, this one was painted on fabric stretched and stapled over a piece of board.
This pencil work I found is 47 years old. Apparently teen years had a lot of angst back then.
This Polaroid picture is water damaged but it is all I have of an an oil painting I did from a magazine. I liked to paint large and this was at least 36 X 36
Attempts at water color , somewhere I had got a hold of iridescent paint or fingernail polish which this photo cannot show, but the fish is glowing with it.
I painted this painting with grandmas oils, it fascinated with its message and loved reproducing the drama. The original artist is unknown to me.
I painted this painting of a nephew deciding I loved painting faces even if I did know know exactly how,
A faded polaroid of an oil painting I fell in love with faces. Learning curve was hair and eyelashes!
After years of not having time and supplies, I pick up the pencil again to sketch a loved face.
First color penciling
Learning faces, how the pieces fit together, how to capture emotion. Such a learning piece shows its missed marks after its done, and I say -ah I could have done better!
Penciling is a quick easy way to learn.
